Using strategic foresight methods to create a futures vision
This vision of Beyond Blueprints for The Futures We Build was developed by using horizon scanning, identifying over 80 signals and creating scenarios. The team explored early concepts with a group of 30 16-year-olds and identified current barriers and opportunities in the sector. We related to the contemporary body of futures as seen in industry reports, futures scenarios and art. The final vision was then developed through writing and telling each other stories from the future, imagining the innovations and how they are used.
Beyond Blueprints can be experienced together with three more visions of the future at The Form / Design Center in Malmö January 30 to March 15 2025. A seminar will discuss the visions on the opening night, in Malmö and online. Register for the seminar here.
How will the built environment look when our shared sustainability goals are realised? How might the sector shaping our built environment function and be organised in such a future? What futures are we working towards together and what steps do we need to take along the way?
In ‘The Futures We Build’ initiative, four interdisciplinary teams will create visions of a future in which the sector shaping the built environment in Sweden has reached its shared sustainability goals. These visions will be exhibited at Form/Design Center to inspire collaboration and transformation in our built environments. These visions are created to support the sector to leverage digitalisation and meet shared sustainability objectives, among them circularity, quality, functional durability, aesthetic design, longevity, robustness, mitigating and adapting to climate change, ensuring access to housing and infrastructure and creating inclusive communities.
The Futures We Build is a strategic project within Smart Built Environment, one of Sweden’s 17 Strategic Innovation Programs, with funding from Vinnova (Sweden’s innovation agency), The Swedish Energy Agency and Formas (Swedish government research council for sustainable development). It is run by Media Evolution Media Evolution in partnership with the Federation of Swedish Innovation Companies(Innovationsföretagen).
